Berlin, Germany

When a young family approached us to find, design, renovate and furnish a flat in Berlin, we jumped at the chance. The beautiful pre-war apartment they found along Kreuzberg’s Canal, in a landmarked building, is rich with character and especially Berlin’s history.

We kept the apartment’s existing bones – original doors, wide plank flooring, and plasterwork – now complemented by subdued lime paint and updated with modern amenities and furniture. To meet our client's needs, we created ample discreet storage and additional sleeping arrangements and designed a custom kitchen from scratch. It now features built-in banquette seating and cabinetry featuring discreet refrigerator drawers, walnut interiors, a marble waterfall-edged countertop, a brass toe kick, as well as vintage lighting from Florian Schulz.

Given the home’s location, our design takes inspiration in Bauhaus modernism. We sourced all the furniture locally and at European auction houses. The completed design allows the home to feel both contemporary and chic through custom painted and repurposed furniture, bold lighting choices, and a stylish blend of materials and accessories.
